About
Born in New York State and raised in Omaha, Matthew graduated magna cum laude from the University of Nebraska Omaha with a B.A. in History and a minor in Criminal Justice. He earned his J.D. from Creighton University, graduating magna cum laude, ranked 4th in his class. His article on Copyright Law was published in the 51st volume of the Creighton Law Review. He also earned seven CALI awards for the top grade in a law school class.
Matthew’s practice focuses on estate planning and probate, corporate law, and real estate transactions. He is known for his responsiveness, approachability, and ability to develop creative solutions tailored to each client’s specific needs. Matthew is one of the lead attorneys in the firm’s trust and estate litigation team, offering substantive expertise on nuanced areas of probate law.
Matthew played the primary role in the passage of Nebraska Lawyer's Advisory Committee Opinion 23-01, which addressed attorney obligations regarding the confidentiality of email communications. Matthew’s research and draft opinion for the Ethics Advisory Committee formed the basis of the Committee’s eventual decision, which can be read here: https://supremecourt.nebraska.gov/sites/default/files/ethics-opinions/Lawyer/23-01.pdf.
Matthew has taught Trusts and Estates at Creighton University School of Law as an adjunct professor.
He is passionate about pro bono work and has volunteered with free legal clinics, the Volunteer Lawyers Project Free Legal Answers Program, and the Douglas County Tenant Assistance Project.
Matthew is a frequent guest on Omaha’s NPR affiliate station, discussing American history, politics, and legal matters affecting Nebraskans. He and his wife Jenifer enjoy traveling, playing competitive trivia, exploring Omaha’s vibrant restaurant scene, and following Yankees baseball. They spend their free time with their pets Harry, a seven-year-old Malti-Poo; Louis, a rescued three-year-old stray cat; and Betty, a two-year-old Nebraska Humane Society adopted stray cat. The couple have also fostered through a local cat rescue.
